The Influence Of The Social Participation Of The Urban Elderly On Their Spiritual Life Satisfaction

The world is facing the aging situation which is becoming more and more serious. Against this international background, conforming to the concept of "healthy aging" and "active aging", encouraging the elderly to participate in society actively and improving their spiritual life satisfactory are important measures to cope with the social challenges of aging. Domestic research focus on the social participation of the elderly and the spiritual life satisfactory of the elderly as two separate aspects, and the research on the relation between these is less. So the author uses survey data of the elderly in Changsha City to study if social participation of the elderly affects the spiritual life satisfactory of them.This article chooses Changsha as our survey location, and chooses the elderly in Changsha as our server people. The author conducted a household survey in Furong District, Tianxin District, Yuelu District, Kaifu District and Yuhua District. The author uses simple random sampling and get valid questionnaires of202.The author also use structured interviews to assist questionnaires and obtain further information. The author combines the quantitative method and the qualitative method, and then analyzes deeply the social participation situation and the spiritual satisfaction of Changsha elderly on the basis of empirical research.The results show that in terms of social participation, the elderly’s willingness is in high level, but actually the social participation is in low level. The forms of social participation are various, but the level of social articipation is low. The elderly are more active in these activities, such as leisure activities, educational activities for young people, political activities and social welfare services. Personal and social factors affect social participation level of the urban elderly. In terms of spiritual life satisfaction, mental state of the elderly is good and interpersonal satisfaction is still high. Cultural needs of the elderly are generally not high, but the elderly who have cultural needs think their needs are met. Most of the elderly are satisfied with the living environment of the community, but they are not satisfied with the facilities, the services and the activities for the elderly in the community. The main emotional communicators of the elderly are families and friends. The satisfaction of emotional support is in high level.Finally, through the correlation analysis between social participation and the spiritual life satisfaction, we find that the higher the level of social participation is, the better the spiritual state of the elderly is. And the higher the level of social participation is, the higher the level of interpersonal satisfaction and emotional communication satisfaction are.
