Chinese Assistance And Reality Of Historical Reflection Of Looking

Aiding the weak and helping the poor has long been a traditional moral value for Chinese nation. China has long dedicated herself to foreign aid, and Zambia, an African country, has been one of the China’s significant assistance nations. This paper selects Zambia as the object of study for two considerations. First, the Tanzania-Zambia Railway built by China famous in the world, which makes Zambia familiar to the majority of Chinese. Second, China’s assistance to the country still boasts several questions, which makes Zambia typical object of study. On the basis of respect for history and facts, this paper reflects on China’s assistance to Zambia critically, which will be of immense importance for improving China’s assistance to Africa and promoting China’s strategy implementation in Africa.This paper is written in the following way. Making a general survey of the history and present situation of China’s assistance, the author summarizes the distinct contemporary characteristics, namely, the singleness in early period and diversified trend at present. Then, the author explores the reasons for China’s assistance to Zambia at different times, namely, to strengthen China’s political influence in international community in early time since the founding of PRC, to realize mutual benefit and win-win situation after the reform and opening-up policy, and to display China’s accomplishments:wining a sound international image and promoting China’s ability to participate in African affairs politically, and obtaining enormous overseas income economically. Moreover, the author pays special attention to the problems in China’s assistance to Zambia. On the one hand, other international members often misunderstand China’s aim of aiding Zambia intentionally or unintentionally; on the other hand, the assistance itself has deficiencies too, such as lack of overall planning, rough business, insufficient mass media and publicity, etc. Finally, in view of the problems this paper put forwards suggestions for improving China’s assistance to Zambia, which mainly center on scientific measures adjusted to the local conditions.
