The social ideal problem is really a major reality in the transformation period which weare going through. It is also a frontier problem that modern philosophers are concerning about.The social ideal means that people are imagining, looking forward and pursing their brightfuture. It is the core of ideal and plays an important role in the social development.Since the reform and opening up policy, especially the foundation of socialist marketeconomy, we are coming into a new era to build a moderately prosperous society in all aspects.With the improvement of people’s material requirements, people begin to change their valuesand ideal beliefs. Some people sink into materialism and hedonism to doubt about socialismand their faiths towards socialism are gradually lessening. This paper will begin with thetransitional background and focus on social ideal to analyze the basic theories, the existingproblems, the major reasons of social problem and the solutions.Without the introduction and conclusion, this thesis contains four parts:The first part talks about the concept, classification of ideal and the concept,characteristics of social ideal. It points out a scientific and proper standard of social ideal toprovide a way to human society. Ideal is a basic feature to divide human and animals. Thesocial ideal is the core of ideal. The social ideal is the construct and imagination of howpeople will live and how the society will be. The premise is the dissatisfaction and negativeevaluation of the reality. It includes the positive prediction of the future demands. The socialideal has the transcendental, critical, creative, the standardized and value orientation features.The scientific and proper social ideal contains two aspects, that is, the regularity and purpose.The social ideal is the combination of the power of society. It tells people what they should doand what is good for human beings. At the same time it enriches people’s spiritual world andpushes our society to go further. The change of social ideal concept is a social demand.The second part focuses on the major problems of social ideal in transformation period.The social ideal has the historical features and different periods have different social demands.People are pursuing different lifestyles. Up until now we are in a transformation period, theold concepts still exist in some people’s mind and the new concept is not well constructed. Therefore, in our daily life, it may occur many problems on social values and beliefs. Theseproblems include the misunderstanding of social ideal, they believe to realize the social idealis to realize communism and it is the end of social development. The contradiction betweensocial and individual idealism becomes more obvious. People pay much attention to their owndevelopment and they are too eager to achieve their personal values and beliefs so that theyignore the whole value of society. Materialism leads the negative effect of the social ideal andmoney becomes the drive to the human behavior. People spend a lot of energy on materialthings and neglect the construction of our spiritual word. In the end, it will lead to the lackingbeliefs of social ideal.The third part is about the reason of major problems of social ideal in transformationperiod. There must occur some uncertain factors in transitional society. People will havedifferent beliefs about the recognition and pursuit of social ideal. With these problems, thisthesis will explain in four aspects, such as the appearance of the market economy, interestdifferentiation and social stratification; the unsound democratic legal system and too muchfocus on social government; the ceasing effects of western values and the development ofinformational globalization; the lack of social ideal education and the single educationalcontents and methods. They are all the reasons that lead to the social idealistic problems.The fourth part tells how people can do in transformation period. Facing these problems,people should have a positive attitude and find the best solutions as much as possible.Productivity is the main power of human development and it is the basis for social ideal.Therefore, people should mobilize all positive factors to emancipate and develop theproductive forces; people should do according to some rules as democracy and legal system isthe leverage of social development and it provides political security; we should treat ourculture correctly to draw on the strength of other civilizations to pursue peace anddevelopment through cooperation and we should have firm Marxism and Socialism beliefs tomake China into a harmonious society.All in all, in the process of social development, we must pay much attention to thescientific construction of social ideal. We must stick to Marxism and Socialism beliefs torealize our dream of our peaceful and prosperous society.
