The U.S.-Japan alliance and the U.S.-Korea alliance formed in the1950s, they arethe tools of the United States against the Soviet, and the products of the cold war. Afterthe cold war, the U.S.-Japan alliance and the U.S.-Korea alliance did not disappear, butgot further strengthen. The United States adjusted and redefined the two alliances. AfterSeptember11, the United States adjusted the global military strategy, and then theU.S.-Japan alliance and the U.S.-Korea alliance showed so many differences. This articleis qualitative research to comparatively analyze the different characteristics of theU.S.-Japan alliance and the U.S-Korea alliance after the cold war. This article uses the alliance theory; first, it compares the origins of the twoalliances after the cold war and analyzes the strategic value of the United States in theFar East alliance-system, namely the different nature and function of the two Allies, andalso the asymmetric features of the two alliances. Second, it compares the differentfeatures after the1990s’ redefinition. After the cold war, the differences of the twoalliances mainly manifested in definition formal or not, the different ways to the "northKorea’s threat", the different positions in the global strategic adjustment of the UnitedStates, and the different expectations in the political game. In the last part of this article,it deeply analyzes the two alliances’ future, thus China has its own countermeasureschoice. The research shows that alliance theory can be used to interpret the U.S.-Japanalliance and the U.S-Korea alliance’s changes, and they will have the strengthen trend.Although there are some friction and contradictions between the Japan and the UnitedStates, also between the Korea and the United States, the two alliances will still keepgoing because of the existence of the respective interest demand. But it is clear that theU.S.-Japan alliance will be still as the core of the system of the East Asianalliance-system, and also will have a broader regional and even global character. By thecomparison, the U.S.-Korea alliance is not so important as the U.S.-Japan alliance, whereas the U.S.-Korea alliance will only has the regional significance. That is becausethe thinking about South Korea is only limited to the Korean peninsula and northeastAsia safety factors of itself, in this sense, the U.S.-Korea alliance no rise to regional features, only stay in times of regional level. Facing the U.S.-Japan alliance and theU.S.-Korea alliance or even enhance constantly adjust the trend, China also want to try tothink. China should handle the relationship between the three countries actively on thebasis of the new security concept, and develop the comprehensive national strength andset up the good international image.
