with the transformation from elite to mass higher education, the universities continue to expand the scale of enrollment. The amount of Chinese student party members is increased, and the desire to join the party and the proportion of university student party members is increased. How to strengthen and improve ideological and political education of university student, particularly strengthening the education of moral and motivation to join the party has been an important work caused a high degree of attention of the party, state and universities for many years. The rising number of university student party members deliver the fresh blood for the party organization and development But with the impact of the economic and social development, a variety of social thoughts appeared in the transformation period, university students and students of party members began to shake their political beliefs and ideals, and they didn’t have firm beliefs, their motivation to join the party might be diverse. These issues bring a new topic to carry out the party spirit education and strengthen the party. This paper is to explore the university students’characteristics and problems of motivation to join the party in the theoretical and empirical level with the adoption of empirical research methods, based on a sample survey of nine universities in Jilin Province with analysis of the motivation of university students to join the party, and then it proposes the solutions to provide a reference on university students’party spirit education.
