In the1950s, due to a variety of domestic and foreign factors, aseries of group events were taken place in our country. The main typesinclude farmers’ retirements from cooperatives, students’ strikes, workers’ strikes and veterans’ petitions. These events happenedalmost in the sama time, which was large-scale and wide-spread.Inthese events the contradiction of cadres and the masses weresevere. They were deeply influenced by the environment at home andabroad. On the basis of correctly analysing the reasons of these groupevents,Mao Zedong pointed out that we should accurately determinethe nature of group events and establish correct attitudes towardsthese events. He also developed a series of principles to handle thegroup events.Furthermore he proposed a suite of countermeasures ofcorrectly processing the group events.Mao Zedong’s thought ofdealing with the group events had consolidated the new regime ofPeople’s Republic of China during that time.Meanwhile,it providedimportant guidance for correctly handling people’s internal contradictions.Although this idea emphasizes too much on classstruggle, despises the building of legal system, and ignores thematerial interests,it still has an important theoretical and practicalvalue to deal with our current social conflict in the transformationperiod.
