An Empirical Study Of The Impact Of University Teachers’ Consumption On Life Satisfaction In Beijing

In the1990s, China has entered a transition to a consumer society. From the yearof2011, the consumption has surpassed the investment which had been the primarycontributor to China’s economic growth. Now, China has entered a new era ofconsumption. At the same time, endless consumption concept of “consumption leadsto happiness” has been gradually wan support among the people. They expect that theindividual life satisfaction can be improved through endless consuming behavior.However, our national life satisfaction has been lower and lower during these years.So far, academia circle has not yet formed a unified conclusion of the results of theconsumer life satisfaction. Under this background, the thesis takes the teachers ofuniversity in Beijing area as the object of study and research the effect ofconsumption on the individual life satisfaction with the methods of sociology ofconsumption. On this basis, the thesis hopes to help the nationals understandconsumption correctly, establish the idea of consumption structure, improving thebehavior of consumption, so as to enhance the individual life satisfaction, pursuing abetter life of happiness.The thesis firstly introduces the relevant concepts and theories of consumptionand life satisfaction according to the exciting research result, and summarizes therelationship of them. The thesis constructed the framework and put forward thecorresponding hypotheses. Besides,1648questionnaires were investigated. The datahave been analyzed with the methods of quantitative analysis using SPSS software,descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis and multiplelinear regression analysis. Finally, the thesis comes to a conclusion that the totalamount of consumption is negatively correlated with the individual life satisfaction,which means the individual life satisfaction will gradually reduce with theincreasement of the total amount of consumption. In the following, the thesis analyzesthe reasons of the negative effect. One is that, the propensity to consume is generallyhigher. The other one is that, the consumption structure of the surveyed staff is notproper. More survival consumption, less enjoyment and development consumption.The study of academic circle still remains in the critical level of ethics. Incontrast, the thesis has adopted the empirical analysis, not only exploring theconclusion that the consumption has a negative effect on the life satisfaction, but alsoanalyzing the deep reasons of the conclusion. So, the thesis enriches the theoreticalresearch. In addition, the thesis will help the nationals understand the relationshipbetween consumption and life satisfaction. By improving consumption behavior andoptimizing the consumption structure, the individual life satisfaction will be enhancedand happiness life will also be realized.
