The theory of Multiple Intelligence proposed by Dr. Howard Gardner, the psychologistof Harvard University, not only has a tremendous impact on education in the world, but alsobeen generally welcomed in the educational circles in our country and been used as the theorybasis for new curriculum as well. However, questions like how to put the MultipleIntelligence Theory into teaching practice, how to develop the students’intelligence inEnglish learning, how to promote English teaching effectively, and how to make the students’intelligence get better and harmonious development, have become the issues that arewidespread concerned in the educational circles at present.Based on the research of the Multiple Intelligence Theory that have already beenconducted at home and abroad, this thesis makes further exploration by employing differentmethods including the theoretical research, literature survey, questionnaires andexperiments.It systematically expounds the application of the Multiple Intelligence Theory invarious aspects of English teaching in primary school including dividing different groupsaccording to the students’intelligent features, designing multivariate teaching activities,stratified teaching in class, making multiple assessment and so on. The purpose of thisresearch is to make an effective English classroom teaching plan from the perspective of theMultiple Intelligence Theory, and to provide some references on the practice of the MultipleIntelligence Theory for the majority of educators, especially the English teachers in primaryschools.This thesis is divided into five chapters, in addition to introduction and conclusion. Theintroduction mainly discusses the background and significance of the research.The first chapter reviews the research about the Multiple Intelligence Theory at homeand abroad as well as the research in the practice of the Multiple Intelligence Theory inprimary schools, and presents the application of the Multiple Intelligence Theory to EnglishTeaching in primary schools in China.The second chapter is the theoretical basis of this thesis,which is divided into three parts. The first part elaborates the connotation of MultipleIntelligence Theory, its key points and features; the second part introduces the concept, features and types of teaching strategy. The third part states the connotation of effectiveteaching and the relationship between teaching strategies and effective teaching.The thirdchapter is the research methods and design, mainly to explain the experimental goal, process,object and method, and to clarify the testing tool. The fourth chapter is about the process ofthe research and data collection and analysis, which is the central part of the thesis. Through aseries of steps such as: handing out a questionnaire survey to find the intelligent characteristicof students, teaching students Multiple Intelligence Theory, dividing groups according to thestudents’intelligent features, designing learning activities under the guidance of the theory ofmultiple intelligences, and making multiple assassment and so on. Through classroomobservation and experiment results before and after, the thesis tries to make a combination oftheory and practice, and make an effective English classroom teaching plan from theperspective of the Multiple Intelligence Theory.The fifth chapter is the findings of the studyand enlightenment. It is proposed that using Multiple Intelligence Theory to guide primaryschool English Teaching can help the teachers pay more attention to students’differentintelligence characteristics, and can ensure the students to make their intelligent advantages inlearning English. The application of Multiple Intelligence Theory can not only enhance thestudents’English level, help the students’intelligence harmoniously developed, but also helpthe teachers renew their ways of teaching and promote their professional development.The conclusion summarizes the research, and points out the limitation of the thesis.
