A Study On The Path To Realize University President’s Professinlizatin In China

University President is the manager and navigator in organizing and developing a university. The evolution of University President’s role to be professionalization is closely related to China’s political, economic, and cultural reform as well as the conversion of higher education’s developing mode. But because for a long time, the administrative system of education in our country is centralized, higher education tends to be planned economy. University basically depends on and is answerable to government, especially the Department of Education Administration. Due to the strict management of universities, University Presidents’power and freedom are relatively limited. Their autonomy and creativity can not be brought into full play. Therefore, the professionalization of University President appears with no reality. With the development of China’s educational reform, academic circles are paying more and more attention to the role of President. The phenomenon of "administration" of education in universities’management system and "official standard" of University Presidents has caused the attention of people and aroused the desire for change, which puts forward new pressure and challenge to University President. Simultaneously, this has also attracted academia’s reflection on the professionalization of University presidents.This paper aims to illustrates the University presidents’professionalization by applying the method of historical literature to sort out and summarize University presidents’professionalization’s connotation, characteristics, causes etc., to systematically reflects the factors that affect realization of University presidents’professionalization, and to explore a solution to realize the professionalization of university presidents in China.This thesis is divided into three parts.The first part provides the rational for the present research and illustrates concepts involved, and then based on the existing related research, the author points out its deficiency.The second part analyzes the reasons of University Presidents’professionalization. From the internal condition, external condition and self-condition that affect University presidents’ professionalization, the author will find out the influence and promoting function of economy development, education popularization and education internationalization on University Presidents’ professionalization.The third part elaborates the important significance of the University presidents’ professionalization to a university’s safe and sound development. And then, the author will explore the paths to achieve professionalization of University President from the aspects of idea and system.
