After "State Council’s decision on vigorously promoting the reform and development of vocational education" has been implemented since2012, vocational education has greatly developed in the past decade. The development mainly manifests itself in the following aspects:a growing range of education, the obvious improvement in the effectiveness of education scale and an increasing financial investment in vocation education made by national and local governments. The secondary vocational education is very important among the vocational education development. However, expanding the scale of secondary vocational education, growing school enrolment and increasing number of secondary vocational schools are bound to make many secondary vocational students confront a bleak employment situation and hard choice of career. Thus, it is significant to give a guidance of their career development and career planning. Since their planning and selection of jobs are highly motivated by their career intentions, they need to form good intentions so that they can select their career wisely and smoothly. Specifically, secondary vocational students need to make a full understand of themselves and their career, make reasonable requirement of their own career development, and more importantly, be willing to actively involve themselves in the process of career selection which will be helpful to their career development,Training students how to form correct career intention is not only the task of school but also the responsibility of family and society. The author of the present research investigated the effect of family variable on secondary vocational students’ career intentions which was a main research line in this thesis. Furthermore, the author classified these findings and gave a detained analysis of the problems existed and reasons. After the discussion of these problems, relative suggestions were given, hoping to make a contribution to the future research into secondary vocational education and provide practical help to secondary vocational students’career planning and development. Based on previous theoretical and empirical research on career selection and career planning, the author conducted an open-ended interview with the school leaders, teachers, students and parents in order to explore the current situation of secondary vocational education. The questionnaire "family factors of vocational students’ career intentions" was self-designed. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire had been tested. The family variable has five levels:the way of family upbringing, income, parents’education level, parent-professional nature (social status), location of home. Career intention was further divided into four aspects:self-awareness, career understanding, professional development requirements and career decision-making. The findings mainly included:1. there was different career intention under different level of the variable family.2. The statistic analysis of the cross table of family and career intention and independent-samples t test indicated that in relatively developed regions, students bor into a democratic official family with a lower incomes yet their parents having a higher education level had a clearer career intention.3countermeasures construction from the family point of view was an important way to improve vocational students in forming career intention.As far as the research conclusions are concerned, the author discussed the reasons and resolution from the family aspect. The main recommendations are as follow:1. improve the degree of parents’influence on their children’career intention through the implementation of government policy, strengthening of propaganda work, perfect laws about parents’rights and obligations, and develop the power of social media impact.2improve the level of parents’education, including the building of the democratic family, discovery and guidance of their children interest.3. enhance the professional nature of the parents, and they need to set a good example for their children in formation of the right career intention and provision of positive professional behavior.4family, school and community interrelated and formed a unified atmosphere, such as home-school cooperation at all levels, social or community’s support of systematic tutor training.
