In the five-year assessment by the Educational Ministry, some one said the standard for judging a school is "a qualified school lies in its hardware, a nice school lies in its software and an excellent school lies in its cultural construction." From this judgment, we can conclude that cultural construction is the highest standard to judge a school. But people have not fully realize the importance of the cultural construction of a school, especially the cultural construction of the middle school and primary school. There are very few theories and practical exemplification on this area which we can refer to, say nothing of those of the newly-built rural middle school. For the above reason, this thesis focuses on theory and practical exemplification on the cultural construction of the newly-built rural middle school. It presents some ideas on the basis of the research on Jugezhuang Middle School in Miyun county Beijing.Based on results and data of the fieldwork, questionnaire of the teachers and students on the cultural construction of the newly-built rural middle school, interview of the principal who is in charge of the cultural construction of this school, and the interview of some teachers and students, this thesis analyses the advantages and disadvantages of the material and cultural construction of Jugezhuang Middle School by picture comparison, statistic chart, etc. The leading conclusions are as follow:The advantages of its school construction are listed as follow:Firstly, the school has a scientific layout and the basic facilities are nice and in good order.Secondly, the graduated students give the school some furnishing stone as keepsake which carved some words to show their thanks and love of the school. These furnishing stone combine the material and the inner meanings together and edify the students at school and the graduated students with their creative designs and profound meanings.Thirdly, the cultural wall of this school is designed according to the characteristics of this school and gives very good education to the students. The disadvantages of its school construction are:Firstly, the virescence of the school is very small and dispersed. Jugezhuang Middle School has five buildings parallel to each other, and this layout divide the virescence into several small pieces between the buildings which resulted into the present layout of the virescence.Secondly, there are very few tall trees in this school. This is a newly-built school, so the trees are quite small. And for the first reason, there are very few places for planting tall trees. The virescence is mainly covered with grass with little shadow and ancientry which makes it a little tedious. Thirdly, the students participate little in designing the classroom and outdoor disseminating windows. The style and content of the classroom and windows are mostly decided by the school or the superior department with little display of the students’ideas. As a result, the students are not satisfied with it.According to the conclusion of the research, this thesis put forward some suggestion:first, the school should avoid locating in the busy area of the town, but the transportation should be convenient for the students to go between the school and their home. Second, the layout of the new school should also take the whole virescence into consideration. The school should leave the area for the central virescence before construction. Third, the newly-built rural school should fully think about the relation between the study area and the living area before construction. Four, the material and cultural construction of a newly-built rural school should endeavor to create its features and be different with other schools. Five, the material and cultural construction of a newly-built rural school should accept the teachers’and students’ suggestions and comments and let the users of the school’s material and cultural facilities become the subject of the management of these facilities.
