Since the1980s, school culture has become the focus of researchers in the education sector in China. As an important part of the school culture, school material culture, should not be neglected and play an important role in the education process. However, from the current perspective of our country’s school culture construction study, mainly in universities and vocational schools, the research in theory and in practice is little to be concerned. Study on primary material culture construction, is not only beneficial to enrich the theories of school culture, school culture construction and development has more practical significance.Based on the existing relevant theories of school culture and material culture in schools, this study analyzes and combs the primary material culture construction of the connotation, structure, characteristic and function, and discusses the theoretical significance and practical value. At the same time, this study uses case-study and other three methods, which are file data analysis, interview, participant observation on the Hexi district of Tianjin Pingshan Road primary school, Si Hao Lu primary school and Crystal primary school for a more in-depth study of the material cultural, which consists of four aspects, such as school geographical environment, the layout of the school environment, infrastructure and school landmark material culture. This research summarizes and analyzes the success experience and disadvantages of material culture construction in three primary schools. The study finds that three primary schools in the material culture of construction has its own characteristics and also pays attention to the schools’ educational philosophy, combining culture and material culture construction characteristics. But in practice, there are some problems. For example, the discipline of teachers and students in the whole school’s material culture construction of participation in less, more is the headmaster, management personnel and part of the backbone teachers’ participation; school material culture construction of corridor and class especially,which are lack of dynamic; the school material culture form a single, lack of high quality construction.Finally the study puts forward six principles on strengthening the construction of primary material culture, which are integrated principles, principles of development, educational principles, principles of subjectivity, artistic and practical principles, as well as in the implementation process should take six specific strategies:first, accurate positioning, format the material cultural characteristics of themselves; second, focus on theoretical leading, highlight the school’s philosophy; third, adhere to the people-oriented concept, reflect humanistic care; fourth, increase capital investment, improve the construction of physical facilities; fifth, attention to detail, pursue fine and delicate material culture construction; sixth, fusion of science and art, focus on the promotion of culture taste.
