Local geography teaching is an important component of middle school geography teaching. Geography curriculum standard uses local geography education as the carrier for the integrated learning. As an important way of the new basic geography education reform’s implementation, it’s worth for geography teachers to do the painstaking research of how to write local geography textbooks in order to let the students get the knowledge of local geography and the research methods. The author came up with some ideas and suggestions about the writing principles of local geography textbook, which combine trying to self-written a new local geography textbook of Huizhou, Guangdong, through the introduction of these textbooks general writing requirements and the reflect of the existing problems.The paper consists of six parts:A:The background and purpose of this topic and the current researches, the methodology and the remaining problems of local geography education.B:The definition, background of times and function of local geography education.C:The types of writing the local geography textbooks.D:The principles of writing the local geography textbooks.E:The requirements of local geography textbook writers under background of the information society.F:An example of self-written local geography textbooks, the geography features of Huizhou.The author came up with some ideas about writing the local geography textbooks through analyzing the guiding theory and basic requirements.Especially in Part C, the author puts forwards the integrated type of writing local geography textbooks, and a self-written local geography textbook of Huizhou City is presented here as an example. Besides, basing on the current research, Part D discusses some of the key principles for local geography textbook compilation.The research of local geography textbook is of great significance as it’s closely related to the quality of the textbook.
