Research On The Application Of Local Geography Materials To Assist Geography Teaching In Senior High Schools

Local geography materials are very important resources of geography teaching,which can help students understand theoretical knowledge and think about the geographical phenomena around them at the same time,and promote the understanding of theoretical knowledge and help to improve students' achievements in geography.Based on the basic theories of geography,pedagogy and psychology,and taking the application of local geography materials in geography teaching of senior high schools as the research objective,this paper carries out related survey and research on geography teaching of senior high school in Tangshan city.Firstly,including the distribution of related questionnaires,through the questionnaire data,this paper analyzes the status quo of the application of local geography materials in the classroom in geography teaching of senior high schools in Tangshan city,and further explains the influencing factors.Secondly,through the design of teaching cases,it provides examples for geography teachers in Tangshan city to use local geography materials for assisted instruction.Lastly,adopting the designed teaching cases for empirical research,through the analysis of the experimental results,the study reveals the influence of the use of local geographical materials for assisted instruction on students' geography learning.The major findings are presented as follows:(1)The results of students' questionnaire analysis indicate that only 35.77% of the students know the basic situation of their hometown well,which demonstrates that the majority of students do not know their hometown well.The main source of the knowledge of local geography acquired by the students at present is mostly confined to the occasional explanation of the teachers in the classroom.80.75% of the students argue it is “very useful” to learn the local geography knowledge in senior high schools.Only 5.02% of the students do not support local geography courses,which states that the overwhelming number of students want to learn local geography very much.(2)The results of teachers' questionnaire analysis signify that none of teachers contend that it is unnecessary to apply local geography materials in geography class,which indicates that teachers all consider that local geography materials should beused in geography teaching in senior high schools.Only 6.25% of the teachers deem that they have a good understanding of the physical geography and human geography in Tangshan city,and the majority of teachers do not have a deep understanding of the physical geography and human geography in Tangshan city.However,because there is no local geography textbook in Tangshan city,it is difficult to apply local geography materials to routine teaching,so teachers merely occasionally use local geography materials in classroom teaching.(3)The empirical study indicated that the class that applied local geographical materials to assist the teaching masters more knowledge than the class with routine teaching,and that's because students have a better understanding of local cases,the application of local geographical materials to design cases is helpful for students' understanding of textbook cases,forming an intact knowledge structure,and thus improving students' level of regional analysis.The questionnaires and empirical analysis revealed that local geography materials in geography teaching of senior high schools can improve students' academic proficiency and make them grasp the theoretical knowledge of textbooks more firmly.However,the frequency of use of local geographical materials in geography teaching of senior high schools in Tangshan City is not high.For this reason,the countermeasures and suggestions are put forward as follows: We should improve the ability of geography teachers to apply local geography materials,and we teachers should not only apply the teaching of local geography materials to the classroom,but also implement the field practice activities of geography and foster students' practical ability of geography.In order to facilitate teachers to apply local geography materials to routine teaching,we should actively promote the compilation of textbooks of local geography.
