Medical Students’ Employment Intention And Its General With The Self-efficacy Relations

ObjectiveIn view of the problem of undergraduate’s employment, this study aims to understandstudents’the perception of the employment pressure and the employment intention, and analyzethe factors affecting the perception of employment pressure and selection of employmentintention from the perspective of society, population, psychological-----general self-efficacy, andschool record. Especially, from the comprehensive view of university, the study analyzespertinent factors affecting medical students’employment intention with the main focus on therelationship between students’general self-efficacy and their perception and intention ofemployment to provide the basis for schools to carry out vocational training and improvestudents’capabilities to handle the employment pressure.MethodsStructure interviews were conducted among 500 students who were randomly selected froma medical college with a questionnaire based on literature research and consultation to collectdata, on which a study on research on the perception of employment pressure, the employmentintention and general self-efficacy was based. In the interviews, the test of employment intentionincludes three aspects: the industry of the expected employment, the area of employment and thesalary of employment, etc. Then, weighting the assessment indices based on the difficulty ofemployment intention. The study compounded the index of employment intention to challengingindex of employment intention, and then discussed the relationship among the generalself-efficacy, medical students’ employment pressure perception, employment intention,employment intention and the challenge index.This study adopts the method of statistical frequency to analyze employment pressureperception employment intention and general self-efficacy of undergraduate of medicine major.By using T-test, analysis of variance and chi-square test, this study researches the influence ofsociety, population characteristics, studying & living condition on employment pressureperception and employment intention. In addition, the study adopts the corresponding analysis toresearch the relationship between generally self-efficacy and the challenge index of employmentintention.The results(1) The situation of the employment pressure perception: 91.1% of surveyed students feel acertain degree of the employment pressure. Grade, major, major interest degree, grades andfather’s occupation have influence on distribution of employment pressure perception, andstatistical difference exists.(2) 91.3% of the students will consider the plan after graduation, but only 27% of the respondents responded "plans after graduation". Among these respondents, 70.1% of themchoose to work after graduation, 16.4% of them choose to join postgraduates. 6.7% of themare ready to go abroad.Medical students’ choice of employment industry: In the 496 surveyed students, 35.1% ofthem chose to work in "medical institutions" (98% choose to second and third publichospital), 34.1% hope to teach in the school, and 22% wanted to work in governmentorganization.Medical students’ expected region of employment: 61.1% of the students are willing to go to"small city", 15.7% and 13.5% of the students are willing to go to the "big cities" and "thecounty". The differences have no significant correlation with student nationalities. 66.7% ofthe medical students’salary expectations is in 1000¥~ 2000¥and 19.2% prefers 2000¥~ 3000¥. If there is big gap between salary expectations and salary the unit provided,76.2% of respondents said they didn’t want to sign the contract.76% of the students prefer more competitive and challenging job.Challenging index Employment intention(CDEW) is a normal distribution. The secondgrade students have higher CDEW (P < 0.001), and the students who are more interested inmajor have lower CDEW (P < 0.05).(3) 80% of the students generally self-efficacy score are between 20-30 points. In the group ofthe male, or the students who have participated in the social practice, general self-efficacylevel is higher (P < 0.05). General self-efficacy has a certain relationship with employmentsalary. When the self-efficacy score is below 30 points, general self-efficacy has negativerelationship with CDEW(B); and there is a correlation with the employment pressureperception; the relationship above are associated statistical significance (P < 0.05).Employment training enhances students’ employment pressure perception degrees, but ithas not yet found that employment guidance has impaction on the student employmentintention of challenging index and general self-efficacy.Conclusion(1)Most of medical students feel the higher employment pressure. The employment pressureperception is influenced by professional, grade, the study result, professional training educationfactors influence.(2)The surveyed medical students prefer more competitive and challenging work. Theselection of employment industries tend to public secondary and tertiary hospitals, schools andgovernment organization. The employment regions tend to small city. Most of students’expected salary range is 1000¥- 2000¥.(3)The higher medical students’ general self-efficacy is, the more likely they perceive realityof the employment pressure, and the lower the CDEW is. The correlation between Generalself-efficacy and the CDEW are negative. It is not benefit for students’future career potential.(4)The school is students’the main avenue of obtaining career training and employmentinformation, but it had not found that career training had impacted on students’ CDEW andgeneral self-efficacy influence.(5)It is suggested that medical students not only improve their professional interest inlearning and study result, but also take part in social practice activities; the school shouldstrengthen career education, reduce the senior and junior students’employment psychologicalpressure, and help students to build up the actual self-efficacy to improve the employment pressure coping ability.
