The existence of rural children left behind is a special social phenomenon derivedfrom the process of rural labor shifting to cities and towns. In recent years, the problemof rural children left behind has already aroused great social concern. Many expertsand scholars explore the problem from different angles. On the basis of analyzing thepresent state and the existing problem of rural children left behind, this article furtherexplores the causes of the problem of rural children left behind, and put forwardcountermeasures to solve the problem.Rural children left behind face a series of problem in life, education andpsychological development. In the aspect of family life, they live a hard life. Becausetheir parents are not around, they are entrusted to friends and relatives to take care of.In such family environment, children lack parental care. To some degree, they get lesscare and they are less well understood. Their communication with parents is restrictedto a certain extent. In education, there are certain problems concerning children leftbehind, because the level of education in rural areas is still under development,educational facilities and teachers are not ideal, and education model is moreconservative. In terms of psychological development, in addition to the impact fromtheir parents working outside, children left behind live for a long time in a constrainedenvironment. They are apt to have psychological resistance for learning. They begin toneglect studies and become self-centered in a self-helpless life. If this situation lasts fora long time, a variety of psychological problems will appear, such as self-centeredness,weariness, in studies, autism and other unhealthy psychological problems.In order to solve the problem of rural children left behind, families, governmentand society must woke together to improve those children’s living and learningconditions with the purpose of creating conditions for their healthy growth. Firstly, thegovernment should speed up the reform of household registration system, so thatmigrant works can enjoy the same treatment in the city as city people do. In this way,most of their children can live together with their parents, thus reducing the number of children left behind. Secondly, the government should pay more attention to childrenleft behind by playing the responsibilities of various departments, strengtheningleadership, assigning responsibilities and playing a positive role of mass organizationsin the management services of rural children left behind. Thirdly, policies have to bemade by the government to reduce the cost of migrant workers in entering cities whilethe burden of migrant workers is reduced. Fourthly, parents of the children left behindshould be aware of the importance of communicating with their children to make theirchildren grow healthily in the parental love and care.
