| Tennis is nowadays a popular and attractive sport worldwide in light of its long history. With thedevelopment of world economy and the improvement of people’s living standard, tennis has been graduallyaccessible for the general public and becomes one of the popular recreations rather than a noble sport as itwas in the past. In recent years, tennis sport is introduced into the physical education, especially theuprising tennis club in the college and is adorable by college students. Combining the guiding ideology forthe college’s physical education reform and the slogan “Health first and lifelong exercise”, this thesisinvestigates the current situation of college tennis education and extracurricular activities in Henanprovince as well as analyzes the existing problems, which provide a practical significance for thedevelopment of college tennis club, thus further promotes the educational reform in Henan. It is believedthat the establishment of college tennis club can both meet the needs of tennis promotion in college andcreate a good atmosphere of physical training for college tennis fans.This thesis carries out a survey about the current situation of Henan college tennis club by usingseveral approaches such as questionnaire, statistic, logic, literature review and expert interview. Thesamples are12representative universities and colleges in Henan, including Zhengzhou University, HenanUniversity, Henan Normal University, Henan University of Science and Technology and other colleges.The result shows:1. The main obstacles of developing Henan college tennis club are short of funds, playgrounds andequipment and lack of recognition.2. The college students have been aware of the value and purpose of tennis club, but their activityfrequency and time are still not adequate and is always spontaneous.3According to the survey it is found that the activities of tennis club is always given priority toimprove students’ tennis skills, organize the internal competitions and impart tennis knowledge. But otheractivities such as refereeing practice, game appreciation and external competitions are somewhat neglected.4. The teachers of college tennis club in Henan are generally young and highly educated. Though theyhave tuition fees, it is not compatible with their efforts. 5. The tennis clubs in Henan colleges are commonly dependent on three kinds of financial support:membership fees, school investment and social sponsorship, but the latter one weighs less than the formers.Most of the teachers are in favor of the commercial management, but the supporting students only accountfor one third of the total number.6. In Henan province the majority of college tennis clubs are organized by sports department, togetherwith the student union and sports association. But they are always managed by students in concreteimplementation with the guidance of sports department and student union.The major suggestions are:1. Strengthen the construction of college tennis court and increase the investment of facility.2. Change students’ traditional views of consumption and help them set a good awareness on it.3. The curriculum of tennis club should be practical and meet the needs of students.4. Improve the professional ability of tennis teachers.5. Decision makers should enhance their recognition of tennis sport.6. Make greater effort to publicize the tennis club and organize more tennis activities publicly, thus toincrease its socialization. |
