Australia's Teacher Education Curriculum Appraisal Research

Teachers play a fundamental role for educating social talents, thus the issue of advancing the quality of teachers needs prior consideration for all countries. In the process of the Universitization of Chinese teacher education, many institutions became universities and some universities developed teacher education colleges. Regulating the quality of initial teacher education programs and enhancing the education for teachers has become an important task for our country. In1970s, to insure and promote the quality of teacher education, Australia developed the accreditation of initial teacher education programs. Within decades, the accreditation of initial teacher education in Australia has developed its own characteristics and made some profits. In order to improve teacher education in China, we should study the the development of the accreditation in Australia and learn from its successful experience.The dissertation is composed of five parts.The first part described the research background, along with the purpose, significance and approach of this dissertation, and briefly explained the main concepts. The second part studied the background and the process of the development of Australia’s accreditation of initial teacher education programs. The third part was about the development of Australia’s national system of accreditation of initial teacher education programs. The standards, processes and operation of it was elaborated. The forth part studied the characteristics of Australia’s national accreditation, its impact on the professionalization of teachers and the main issues it has to tackle with. The last part briefly summarized the whole dissertation and concluded with some inspirations for the innovation of Chinese teacher education.
