Sponsored by the College Board, Advanced Placement(AP) programme is a curriculum consists a serious of courses that are taught in senior high school and generally recognized to be equivalent to undergraduate courses in college. This programme mainly focuses on those senior high school students who achieve outstanding results and are capable of further learning. To be specific, it allows these American students to take some university basic courses in advance and receive credits accordingly. Consequently, it gains much attention and popularity among excellent students, who finally decide to try AP courses in advance.Recently, AP programme has been launched in coastal areas of east China and its grades begin to be acknowledged by a group of colleges, for example, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing Language Culture University, etc. AP Human Geography is regarded an indispensable subject in AP programme. Under the circumstances mentioned above, in the thesis a research is conducted on AP programme of Human Geography to give teachers in China a new insight into it. Meanwhile the thesis expounds further on the set and evaluation of high school geography in terms of prevailing AP programme.The thesis includes seven parts, including six chapters and an introduction. To be exact, they are as follows:In introduction, the term of Advanced Placement(AP) is defined at first, then we will dwell on the significance, methods and technical route of the research, at last the research status pertain to AP programme and AP Human Geography programme is supposed to be discussed.In Chapter one, by means of documentary research, the background information and status quo of AP programme are expected to be explained, thus we can find out the features of course arrangement through the analysis of its course content. In addition, the rest part of this chapter will concentrate on administration of AP programme, and an analysis of recognized standard of results achieved in AP programme initiated in Pennsylvania.The Chapter two tries to probe into AP Human Geography programme in light of its course objectives, course content and evaluation systems. At the same time, it will assess three factors mentioned above in order to discover the characteristics of AP Human Geography programme.The Chapter three aims at the significance of applying AP Human Geography programme in China in terms of ability of autonomic study, innovation and processing information.In the end, the Chapter four intends to discuss what we can learn from the implementation of AP Human Geography programme in carrying out the new curricular reform. The Chapter five is the conclusion of research.
