Traditional teaching has many abuses because it can not adapt to the changes in society in the new century. To change this phenomenon, curriculum reform is going on its way. With the quality education’s comprehensive promotion, changing the students’ learning approaches highlights its importance. It is the core of the new curriculum reform, and it is the sign to measure this curriculum reform. Learning approaches of mathematics here means students’basic behavior and cognitive tropism demonstrated in their process of finishing mathematical learning tasks. To change the students’learning approaches of mathematics means changing the students’original, single and passive learning approaches of mathematics, advocating a variety of learning approaches of mathematics such as autonomous learning, cooperative learning, inquiry learning and so on. The purpose is to develop the students’autonomy, cooperation and creativity. This research, guided by many research theories of learning approach abroad and at home, and taking the secondary school students as object, has involved investigations by the use of questionnaires of the secondary school students’learning approaches of mathematics developed by the researcher with the characteristics of mathematics subject. Based on investigations, comparison and analysis concerned, the researcher has gained a thorough understanding of the actuality of secondary school students’learning approaches of mathematics, and found the following conclusions:(1)generally, secondary school students’learning approaches of mathematics have turned from the traditional ways to the new ways, from single approach to a variety of approaches;(2)there are obvious differences between different sexes in traditional approaches, while there are no obvious differences between different sexes in new approaches, but there are obvious differences between different sexes in autonomous learning approach and experiential learning approach among the six new learning approaches;(3)there are no big differences in the learning approaches of mathematics among different grades and schools of secondary school students;(4)there are significant positive correlation between the six new learning approaches. According to the results of survey and analysis, the combination of mathematics teaching theory and practical experience, the author puts up with five strategies for mathematics teachers of helping the students change the learning approaches of mathematics successfully. They may lay a foundation for reforms in mathematics teaching.Currently, the change of mathematical learning approaches has achieved good results, but the effect is not as ideal as expected, so mathematics education reform should keep on its further way. A better blueprint for mathematics education reform need to be drew by education researchers, teachers and students, especially the teachers. The teachers must use a variety of effective methods actively to promote the transformation of the secondary school students’learning approaches and to provide strong protection for the students to learn effectively and the development of students.
