The system of instructional supervision is an important part of teaching management,which could increase the teachers teaching level and assure the quality of teaching. With thedevelopment of new curriculum reform, the traditional instructional supervision should makecorresponding adjustments to adapt the new needs of classroom instruction.Classroom walkthrough advocate principals and school administrators making a frequent,brief,(3or5minutes), focused visits to classrooms, in order to observe the teaching andlearning information. The principals could use the data collected from the classrooms to guideand improve teacher’s capability of teaching reflection, which affects instructional practice andstudent achievement. At present, there are three main models that are used in school districtsacross the United States: The Downey Walkthrough, the Learning Walk, and the WesternPennsylvania Principals Academy Walkthrough Protocol.Classroom walkthrough has several remarkable characteristics: brief, non-evaluative,non-threatening, and informal, etc. This new form of classroom observation that allowsprincipals or school administrators to observe first hand the teaching and learning that areoccurring in the classroom. The implementation of the classroom walkthrough can make theschool administrators, teachers and students form a learning community, and it can also build amutual assistance atmosphere for schools.The implementation of classroom walkthrough in china is still in the initial exploring stage.The study analyzed the situation of classroom walkthrough implemented in several schools, likeBeijing East Road Primary school, Zhengzhou No.16Middle School, found that although theseschools have been obtained some good effects, the problems still remained, for example, themethods of propaganda are still not perfect, the principals prepares insufficiency, the focusquestions are not clear, and the way of feedback is irrelevant.Seeing from the experience of America, classroom walkthrough could improve principals’instructional leadership, promote teachers’ teaching skills, improve students’ scholasticattainment and build a harmonious interpersonal relationship for schools. Meanwhile,classroom walkthrough also have some shortcomings, for example, disturbing the regularteaching order, making teachers feel distrust easily, confining the observation contents to acertain extent. Based on these questions, the study put forward some strategies: Firstly, theschool administrators need pay attention to the training of principals and teachers beforeimplementing classroom walkthrough; Secondly, the school administrators should changemanagement concept, build the consciousness of service for teachers and students; Thirdly, theprincipal should guide and improve teacher’s teaching reflection by asking reflective questions;Lastly, the school administrators should increase the cohesion of the school, create aharmonious atmosphere for school.
