| To develop and strengthen the reading and writing ability for senior high students in our daily English teaching is currently the requirement of the New Standard in the New English courses. These two abilities are the focus in the NMET (National Matriculation Entrance Test) in HuBei Province.Under the guidance of the new concept of the new courses, we should fully take advantage of various reading resources to raise the students’interest of reading, to practise writing as much as possible.We would like to achieve the goal of improving their English on the whole.In this thesis, the author makes best use of Teens (the21st Century News Paper of Senior High) as the teaching assistance, attaching more importance to the practical use in class.It will explain the reasons for why the author chooses this teaching material in her teaching, how to put it into practice in class and in what way to teach students.The author has been teaching as an English teacher for nearly10years, working in the best two key middle schools in Hubei,having met with many students from different language levels ranging from being very poor in English to the very top.These two schools are the experimental schools of the Teens, which have provided the author with a lot of priceless experience. There are great many examples from students:their compositions written in the class, sentences made by them, even some interesting stories they made up.Those examples will be displayed and to prove that it is quite necessary to use some extra teaching material assist teaching in class besides the texts.Those first hand references are the key feature in this thesis.To apply Teens in our daily English teaching to improve the reading and writing skills is a great help for us teachers.We should make the best of this teaching material to assist our teaching.The thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is introduction.It has introduced the present situation in reading teaching in senior high school and simply explains the significance of the study; The second chapter introduces some theories that are related to the teaching in reading, such as reading models; The third one is about some surveys done in the class teaching; The fourth one explains making use of the Teens to improve the students’reading ability; The fifth chapter takes a vivid class for example to give accounts of how to put Teens into practice. |
