English writing is one of the four basic skills of English learning. Writing teaching is indispensable to language teaching. However, for quite a long time, writing teaching and learning has been perplexing English teachers and students. To solve their problems in writing, different measures can be taken in class. In traditional English reading classes, the relationship between reading and writing has been neglected. Therefore, the teaching work produces very little effect and usually language teachers get half the result with twice the effort. Therefore, the writer comes up with a new method of writing and wants to improve senior students’writing ability by writing summaries after reading.The present thesis, whose theoretical bases were Krashen’s Comprehensible Input Hypothesis and Swain’s Comprehensible Output Hypothesis, studied and summarized the newest study achievements about the English writing teaching for years at home and abroad, combining the present situation of middle school English writing and more advanced the writing approach of integrating reading and writing, that is, to improve senior students’ writing ability by writing summaries after reading. The purpose of my paper is to explore an effective and feasible learning strategy of English writing for the senior students in China.In order to verily the effect of this approach, the author carried out the experiment study in two first grade classes of senior school in Zhongqi. One was established to be the Experimental Class and adopted the writing approach of integrating reading with writing to carry out writing teaching. The other was established to be the Control Class and adopted the Traditional approach to carry out writing teaching. The experiment result showed that the English writing scores of the students from the Experimental Class improved more obviously than from the Control Class.In the end, the writer puts forward some suggestions. Summary writing is an effective way of improving students’ writing ability, because the idea formation, as one of the factors of the writing;can be greatly improved by summary writing. Therefore, students’ writing ability can be improved by summary writing, and we should choose different genres for students to write summaries, such as narration, argumentation and expository writing.There are some limitations in my paper, such as the limitation of the sample number, the limitation of the statistic method, the limitation of experiment time and the limitation of genre.
