| Since the early1990s, the United States there have been an advocate of the revival of traditional moral education thought, the movement of character education (character education). Character education, with its profound ideological origins and cultural traditions, combined with the efficiency significantly in education means, for attention by national academic and moral education workers. Thomas Lickona, as a representative of the character education movement, Not only emphasis on character education is a must, and public schools character education was established in accordance with the moral law of nature the two core values:respect and responsibility for their education. He to the new interpretation of the character, and made a series of operable character education strategy to provide a clear and effective guidance for the practice of the American School Character Education. Study on Thomas Lickona of character education theory, values diversity to the challenge of moral education in schools, rich theory of moral education, enhancing the actual effect of moral education in schools in China have a certain significance.In this paper, by means of comparative study method, historical study method, and phenomenal study method, analysis and character education thought of Thomas Lickona. Full-text made up of four parts:the first part of the introduction and analysis background of the times and the theoretical basis of Thomas Lickona’s character education theory. In second part, the paper gives an outline of the object, from the concept, content, method of Thomas Lickona’s character education theory, and points out the coexistence of tradition and modernity, the coexistence of community and individual, control and autonomy of coexistence, the practice and operation of coexistence. The third part, from classroom strategies, school policies, collaboration, community, school and family to study the practice of the character education theory. The fourth part, is my comment on Lickona’s theory of characteron education and to reveal its worth in our schools. |
