A Mind Map To Review The Application Study In High School Geography

The mind map is an effective and innovative mode of thinking, which is based on the brain research, the constructivist theory and the knowledge visualization theory. The mind map focus on the connection between the various things, it is a very efficient information processing system which can make thinking visualized. Using the mind map students can assemble the fragmented and disconnected information to an orderly knowledge network, meanwhile, it can help students focus, stimulate interest and develop the ability of divergent thinking.The mind map always originates from some central concepts or issues, then spread to the edges, so that it can present knowledge in the form of a network. These features of mind map are similar with the regional and comprehensive characteristics of geography. In our studies of certain geographical phenomena or problems, we can introduce the mind map into analysis of the various elements which compose the geographical environment and organization and summarization of the relationship among them, such as the equative relation, the subordinating relation, the restricted relations and so on. In addition, the mind map can make thinking intuitive, it can help students clarify ideas, grasp the overall situation, process the information, it can also help students find the link between knowledge points so as to deepen understanding and memory.This study explores how to introduce the mind map in senior geography review effectively by quasi-experimental research, survey method and other methods focusing on the impact of mind map on the students’ geographical review. The researcher selected two classes with65students in senior two respectively as the experimental class and the control class to do the quasi-experimental research, and made a questionnaire of31students in the experimental class and made an interview of a geography teacher.The results shows that:(1) compared with the traditional way of review, the mind map can be more effective in assisting teachers in instructional design;(2) teachers and students generally recognize and accept the new review way by using the mind maps;(3) the use of mind map can help improve the efficiency of the geography review lessons, promote students to set up knowledge system and improve achievement. This study can provide an effective method for senior geography review, it can also provide reference for improving the quality of teachers’ teaching and the efficiency of students’review.
