To study communication of intellectuals is an important subject and also a difficult subject. Postgraduate is regarded as intellectual with the extension of the conception of intellectual. But many studies about the communication of postgraduates are not related to the communication of intellectuals. It makes the study lack of the sociological depth, and the study of communication of intellectual rest on the theoretical level. So, this study is very important to the sociology of knowledge. In the author opinion, the communication of postgraduate which is a part of intellectual makes a great effect in their growth. To make the study more meaningful, the author chooses the postgraduates from Chinese Academy of Science as the objects. Because they are autarky and work-study compared with other postgraduates in university. And this life style may last in their future.This paper analyze the elements of the communication in working and leisure times of the young intellectuals in school (postgraduates) in "G" Institution of Chinese Academy of Science and find out its essence, effect and significance by using sociological method of participation observation, interview and questionnaire survey. The subject, space, time, pattern and action of communication are main elements of this research. By describing the six elements, the paper is to catch a hole picture of the communication of the young intellectuals in school and deeply analyze the current situation of the communication, the structure characteristics of the circle and the relation between roles and communication. By finding out the structure and function of the communication, the paper can provide the first hand material to the study of young intellectuals and give a hand to the development of the Knowledge sociology.There are five conclusions in this paper. First, there are special structures in the communication of the postgraduates in Chinese Academy of Science which make the communication possible. Secondly, there are significant differences in the communication of the students in "G" institute, because of the difference gender, area and academic credentials. Thirdly, the functions of the communication are full filling of the needs, constructing and maintaining the group, developing the individuals. Fourthly, the communication of the young intellectuals in-, school is limited by its roles, but their understanding and playing of the role still affect their communication. Finally, the "choice" is important in the communication of the young intellectuals in school.This research is divided into six parts. In the preface, the author raises the questions and make clear of the conceptions, literature review, framework and method. In chapter2, the structure of communication of postgraduate in G institute and its restrictive effects to the communicative action are analyzed qualitatively. In chapter3, the difference of gender, area, academic credentials related to the communicative action and the influencing factors of enthusiasm of the action are analyzed quantitatively. In chapter4, the functions of communication are analyzed. In chapter5, the paper discusses the effect from initiative of individual in communicative action and its relation to the structure. In the concluding remakes, the author makes a conclusion of the research and proposed the further study thinking. The basic conclusion of the research is that to make a perfect structure of the communication of young intellectuals in school and to exert their initiative will make the communication more meaningful.
