Britain was the first state to enter into industrialization and urban renaissance.Meanwhile Britain was the first country appeared a series of urban problems andexperienced urban decline and urban regeneration. But before1950s, the urbanregeneration had started, but most of the renew plans were loose, small-scale,speculative. The main responsible departments were either the charity organizationsor local authorities that were in charge of demolishing slum area, refurbishingresidential buildings and constructing roads. Most buildings in this period were builtin short plan either in time or in space. There was no cooperation between theopenings-up departments. Therefore, a series of urban problems appeared. After theWorld WarⅡ, because of the transformation of British economy, the decline ofmanufacture, and the increasing rate of unemployment, and so forth. This countrythat was a brilliant industrial city in history began to decline. Until1980s, the urbanrenaissance just had obtained some achievements.This thesis is mainly expounding the close relationship between communitydevelopment and the British urban renaissance that appeared after the World War Ⅱ.Communities diversified the British urban renaissance during the development;enhance the urban strength; specify the urban objectives and diversify the urbanmeasures. The social security, social care and social democracy of communities helpthe British cities realize the urban communalization in the process of communitydevelopment. And the format, structure, and system of community service play animportant role in aiding the development or even the perfection of urban socialservice. All in all, the communities’ development during1950to2000plays anincentive role in promoting the urban diversification; a stimulus part in realizing theurban communization; a motive function in improving the urban social service.
