As the demand of talents with digital media technology is increasing and its social function is fully realized, many universities set up corresponding major for it. Education is to fill social needs, however, the fact is that currently many students majoring in digital media technology can not find a good job after graduation. The reason is found to be that the ways of education in school can not match the needs of society, students can not learn practical knowledge from the course.The major of digital media technology is a complex one mixing several subjects together, thus it should serve to cultivate more practical talents. The traditional way of teaching is not adequate now, so, it is necessary for universities to reform their teaching method when comes to digital media technology. This paper is designed to build a teaching system that suit the cultivation of talents majoring in digital media technology.The paper consists of six parts. The first part tells the purpose, meaning and studying method of the paper, it also provides the survey of the study in this field both at home and abroad. The second part introduces the concept of media technology and digital media art as well as the difference between the two. Besides, it introduces the difference and connection between practical teaching and experimental teaching. It then analyzes the meaning of practical teaching system and points out the subject of this paper, which is the practical teaching system of undergraduate students majoring in digital media technology. The third part will present a research on students majoring in digital media technology and an analysis of the data collected. It will specifically analyze the shortcoming gained from the research. The fourth part comes up with a practical teaching system based on the previous study. It introduces the system’s principle and focuses on how it can be well connected with practice. The fifth part uses animation major as an example to introduce the experiment, project practice, professional training, graduation internship and design included in the system. The experiment point requires to set up independent experiment and multilevel teaching system. Last part comes to the end with an conclusion. It further summarizes the features and expectation of this system. What’s more, it points out the shortcomings appeared in the process of research with the hope that this paper will be of little help to the cultivation of the talents and the reform of practical teaching. The major of animation is used as an example for detailed analysis of the content of this system.
