The reforming of textbook is an important part to the curriculum reform for the Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (refer to as the Independent Schools). This study explores the compilation ideas of Business Studies textbooks for the Independent Schools and the compilation principles as well as the innovative strategies of the objectives, content, activities and structure. Besides, it also provides the instructional pedagogical suggestions for Business Studies subject to enhance balanced development of the cognitive, psychomotor and emotional aspects of students. This study has applied the curriculum design, educational psychology and instructional theories to review the value, objectives and structure of the textbooks as well as the selection and organization of textbook contents. The outcomes of the compiling of local and foreign Business Studies textbooks, the standpoint and historical development of Business Studies Textbook, and the feedback from the students and teachers of Independent Schools were also used to investigate the compilation process of Business Studies textbooks. Using all the above information, the Business Studies Textbooks are compiled systematically. These textbooks not only help to develop students’ abilities and comprehensive growth, but they also conform to the basic knowledge structure of the business and management. Thus, they suit the students’learning psychology and cognitive development levels, to enhance and motivate students in learning the subject.The compiling of Business Studies Textbook is a continual development process. By analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of Business Studies textbooks and exploring the textbook compilation theories, these will provide criterions and suggestions for compiling the Business Studies textbooks of Independent Schools that emphasizes on students’balanced development and abilities cultivation. Through the study, the quality of the Business Studies textbooks and the outcome of teaching and learning can be enhanced. There not only help students to acquire the basic business knowledge and skills, but also help them to practice business ethnic, positive attitudes and acquire lifelong learning abilities which will prepare them to live and learn happily, to further their study and prepare for work. Moreover they would become smart consumers, ethnical employees, investors, managers or producers in this rapid changing industrialized society. These will fulfill the curriculum objectives of Business Studies subject. Currently no study relates to this topic has been conducted. Therefore, this study will provide better reference for the compiling of Business Studies textbooks of Independent Schools and educators who are interested in studying similar topics.
