Decision-making in sports consists of athletes’perception, judgement, analysis and making instructions. The level of athletes’ decision-making will directly affect their performance. Therefore, research on decision-making in sport will greatly improve the quality of training and performance of competition. Based on the practice of basketball game, videoes from competitions of basketball being selected, this study tried to explore the effects of emotion, self-esteem and task style upon the decision-making speed and quality of basketball players.Eighty basketball players (18to23years old;64men,16women) from a sport university participated in the research. The study consisted of two mixed-design experiments:A. emotion (2)×explicit self-esteem (2)×decision-making task (2); B. emotion (2)×implicit self-esteem (2)×decision-making task (2).The results suggested that:(1) Emotions played an important role in decision-making. The accuracy of decision-making was significantly higher under positive emotion than under negative emotion, while the speed of decision-making was significantly quicker under positive emotion than under negative emotion;(2) Implicit self-esteem had a strong effect on decision-making. The response speed of the players with low implicit self-esteem was slower than those with high implicit self-esteem, while the accuracy was lower than those with high implicit self-esteem;(3) Implicit self-esteem moderated the relationship between emotion and decision-making significantly.
