Self-esteem is individuals' global emotional evaluation and experience of the value and function of their own, which is based on self-evaluation, and it is one of the central components of the self-system. The level of self-esteem is not only directly related to adolescents' mental health but also play an important role in adolescents' development of personality and behavior. At the same time, serving as one of the personality variables, self-esteem have comprehensive effects on adolescents' cognition, motivation, emotion and social behavior. This research is based on the concept and construction of self-esteem that was proposed by Zhang Lin. In order to study the juvenile offender's implicit esteem, explicit self-esteem and the meta self-esteem compared with school students, this research used the Implicit Association Test (IAT) developed in these recent years serving as the main research tools and the self-esteem scales which was revised by Zhang Lin. Among the influence factors, the family is very important to self-esteem. This research studied the parenting styles differences between the juvenile offender's and school students, and tried to explore the family's impact on the juvenile offender's esteem. The results of this research indicate:1. The juvenile offenders have the same orientation with the school students to connect themselves with the positive things, and they have the positive self-attitude. The level of the implicit esteem has no significant difference between the juvenile offenders and the school students.2. The juvenile offenders' explicit and meta esteem level are lower than the school students, and the significant differences happened in many of the explicit esteem and all the meta esteem divisors. It is indicate that the juvenile offenders' explicit and meta esteem are suffered in their past experiences.3. When we studied the juvenile offenders' parenting styles we found that there are more stern punishment, denial and less love and understanding.4. For the juvenile offenders, there are significant correlations between the parenting styles and many divisors of the explicit and meta esteem. In the further regression study, we found the parent' stern punishments, denials and extravagant interferences are entered into the regression equation. They are the fundamental predictors for the explicit and meta esteem.5. In this research we can see the main features of the juvenile offenders' parenting styles that cause the lower explicit and meta esteem are: stern punishment, refuse, denial and extravagant interferences.
