The English homework is an integral part of English teaching in middle school, and it ishighly beneficial to the quality of English teaching and learning.The New Curriculum Reformhas been carried out for more than ten years and has got great achievements, however, the stepof the reform of English homework is much slower than that of the reform of Englishclassroom teaching. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the status quo of the Englishhomework for junior middle school students and quest the design as well as the reform of thehomework..This paper explains the necessity of the reform of English homework in junior middleschool and summarizes the research findings at home and abroad on the homework for juniormiddle school students. The aims of English homework as well as the theoretical basis forhomework are discussed,and some principles concerning English homework are developed inthis paper. The main part of this paper is to investigate and analyze the current situation of theEnglish homework by giving out qssuestionnaires and interviewing some students andteachers,and to identifity the fundamental features of the homework. Finally the writer givessome suggestions on how to give efficient and effective English homework for junior middleschool students.There are six parts in this paper. Chapter One is the introduction of the paper whichdescribes the research background and explains some concepts. Chapter Two is a brief reviewof the stdudy of homework both at home and abroad. Chapter Three explains the aims of thispaper and covers some theories for English homework as well as the principles for Englishhomework design. Chapter Four is about the research of the current situation of the Englishhomework for junior middle school students, which includes the design, the carrying out andthe analysis of the research. In Chapter Five the writer summarizes the five fundamentalelements of junior middle school English homework including the adventages anddisadventages of the homework, and gives some suggestions on how to give efficient andeffective English homework for junior middle school students. The part of conclusion is asummary of the whole paper.In this paper the writer tries to combine the theories and the teaching reality together andthe datas and results of the research are used in most of the chapters. It’s hoped that this papercan be kind of instructive to the design of English homework and the English teaching injunior middle school.
