Through “English curriculum standards for the compulsory education”(2011), English teaching means to focus around our students, improve their comprehensive language using ability, which is indispensable from the whole development of students' language knowledge, language skills, emotional attitude, learning strategies and cultural awareness. Homework is one of the important steps of classroom teaching, and also is an important way to help consolidate classroom learning, deepen the learned knowledge. However, under the pressure of “exam-oriented education”, most teachers still use traditional mode of homework assignments. Therefore, improving the quality of junior middle school English homework has great realistic significance in junior middle school English teaching reform and the achievement of English teaching goal.At first, the author conducted questionnaires and interviews in English teachers 30 and students 400 of Yizhi middle school of Xiangtan. The purposes of research are to know the current situation of junior middle school English homework, and know teachers' and students' views and suggestions on English homework.The study employed both qualitative and quantitative analyses in questionnaires and interviews to find the current problems in English homework, whose main problems are: low quality in students' homework completion, drab assignments in the form and content of English homework, less sound homework management system, monotonous, and less timely feedback in English homework, and so on.Based on the theory of pragmatism and humanistic psychology, and the new curriculum standards, the author put forward four principles of junior middle school English homework design, namely, comprehensive principle, process principle, autonomy principle, more interesting principle; Design idea: according to the educational ideas of English curriculum standards about the five goals:language knowledge, language skills, emotional attitude, learning strategies and cultural awareness, then the author combined the specific cases to put forward junior middle school English homework design thought: language skills as the breakthrough point of the practical operation design; language knowledge as the breakthrough point of the comprehensive operation design; emotional attitude as the breakthrough point of the collaborative operation design; learning strategy as the breakthrough point of the autonomous operation design; cultural consciousness as the breakthrough point of extended operation design.The author has found the English homework design can help arouse and maintain the students' enthusiasm in English learning, and improve the quality of students' English homework which is done. At the same time, it can also help teachers improve the methods of extracurricular homework assignments, and realize the overall goal of junior middle school English teaching.
