Physical Education is always an important part of school education. As themain form of school sports, Physical education has been a required course in schoolcurricula at all levels in China. With the development of the reform of collegeeducation, the development and reform of physical education curriculum is alsocontinuously proceeding. According to the interests, needs and physical conditions,contemporary college students can choose different optional courses and sportsthrough the advanced school elective system. Under the pressure of increasinglyfierce social competition, weighty schoolwork and employment, college students arealways trying to look for a kind of sports items which can both promote their physicaland mental health. The five animals exercise, as a traditional national sports action,has some characteristics: vivid behavior, flexible attitude, intensity of hardness andsoftness, harmonic and romantic charm inside and outside. It just enough meets thesporting needs of college students now. For these reasons, the five animals exercisehas been selected by more and more college students in North Anhui province. As oneof optional courses, it is being carried out widely in north Anhui province.In order tostudy the performance of the optional course of the five animals exercise in collegesand universities in North Anhui province, the thesis uses a variety of methods,Literature, logical analysis, questionnaire, statistical analysis and interviews, and soon. This thesis analyzes the factors that affect the performance of the five animalsexercise in the colleges in North Anhui province, meanwhile, the thesis also discusses these current situations and proposes improvement strategies.The results show that:College students quite like select the five animals exercise, they were willing toinvolve actively in learning and doing exercises, but they do not fully understand thefive animals exercise. Most students just take part in the five animals exercisemovement through school optional course of physical education and extra-curricularsports activities. Having a strong body and relaxing themselves is their mainmotivation；There are many problems in teaching the five animals exercise in collegesin North Anhui province. Problems mainly are that teaching hardware installationscould not meet the sporting needs of most students, the teachers’ professional qualityof teaching the five animals exercise is relatively poor, elective teaching situationabout the five animals exercise and curriculum also needs to improve and strengthenfurther；Colleges and universities widely carries out series of extra-curricular activitieson the five animals exercise in North Anhui province. Students love the five animalsexercise and the participation rate is very higher, but most of the situations lack ofappropriate management, organization and system guidance and the management is ina relatively disordered state；The level of the students of the five animals exercise incompetition needs to be improved in colleges in North Anhui province. Though theyare mainly enthusiastic amateurs, the level of them is generally low. The competitionorganizations of the five animals exercise are generally school clubs and spontaneousorganizations of the Athletic Associations, participation ratio of professional teachersis low, and the competition atmosphere and competition quality was lower. In general,these small athletic competitions are all self-organized by students in and out ofschool；The foundation of the five animals of college students in North Anhuiprovince is generally week. Due to the lack of professional teachers, the students offive animals exercise have to be teached by other non-professional physical teachers.The number of professional teachers or similar subjects’ teachers is very low；Bycarrying out the investigation of the teaching status of the five animals exercise, theauthor finds that the main influential factors about carrying out the optional course offive animals exercise in colleges in North Anhui province, these main factors includeddiversity physical situations of students, the lack of professional teachers, teaching methods and content needed to be strengthened, unreasonable curriculum evaluation,informal management and competition, the geographical factors of the climate, lack ofteaching equipment, etc.
