Aiming to make a more objective and comprehensive understanding of thecurrent situation of pupils’ usage of clarifiers in Putonghua, the researchanalyzes the underlying causes from the cognitive perspective, taking pupilsfrom grade1to grade6of Jiangdong primary school in Tonghua city, Jilinprovince as the study object with the research methods of corpus of compositionsurvey, questionnaires and interviews, which will benefit the teaching ofChinese clarifiers.There are mainly400articles of the composition corpus collected,involving87clarifiers, the number of which is much fewer than that counted inthe Chinese teaching material for pupils and the entire language system ofmodern Chinese. With the preliminary understanding of the situation, someregular error types of pupils’ usage of measure words are discussed, namely thegeneralization of clarifiers, the confusion of synonym clarifiers, homonymclarifiers and the lack of clarifiers. And the questionnaire consists of two parts:the first part mainly investigates pupils’ subjective evaluation of the difficulty inusing clarifiers; the second part appears with the types of filling in the blanks,multiple choices, choosing true or false and free matching. The perspectives aredifferent from dissimilar types, which aim to make a full understanding of theusage and acquirement of clarifiers. In addition, the research makes an analysisof the findings from the perspectives of textbooks and teachers, then putsforward four suggestions or strategies for clarifier teaching: to strengthen thescientific of language teaching materials of primary and teachers’self-cultivation of Chinese theory; to correct study bias; to emphasize dailyaccumulation and to enhance study of clarifiers that are easy to be mixed up.
