Music education, as an important area of the humanities, is mainly achieved by the formation of music teaching. The "full-time compulsory education music curriculum standards (trial version)" was promulgated by the Ministry of Education in2002. The music teaching reform, which has especially been neglected in rural, has aroused great concern in the industry with the implementation and widely promotion of the new curriculum across the country. Therefore, where the rural junior high school music teaching should go has become unavoidable question.To make the music teaching more vivid and clear understanding, Longxing secondary school, Xinjiang County was taken as a sample. The current situation, the problems, causes and countermeasures of the music teaching were analyzed, which could provide the theoretical guidance to the effectiveness of the rural junior high school music teaching.This paper mainly discusses the following five aspects:First, the new music curriculum standards and the concept of music teaching were defined. The physical and mental development and music aesthetic psychological characteristics of the junior high school students were summarized. The development and changes of the junior high school music curriculum goals were introduced.Second, the status of the Longxing school music teaching was analyzed. The basic information about music learning, music learning interest, extra-curricular music learning and the basic quality of the Longxing junior high school students were analyzed based on the student questionnaire. The basic information, career motivation, professional knowledge and skills, the satisfaction on textbook selection and the understanding on the new curriculum of the music teacher, and also the new secondary school curriculum, music teaching and research, evaluation of music teaching were discussed according to the interviews with the teachers and the principals.Third, the problems about the music teaching in Longxing secondary school were discussed. For instance, the function of the music education, the negative impact of the learning target as well as traditional educational philosophy to the knowledge of music education is not in place. There exists serious shortage of the qualified music teacher. Such as also the uneven distribution of the teacher, insufficient music education funds and outdated teaching methods.Fourth, the causes affecting the music teaching from the school, the teachers and the students in Longxing secondary school were revealed.Fifth, the way of the music teaching reform to the Longxing secondary school was explored. Such as strengthening the importance of music disciplines, strengthening the power of the music teacher team, regulating the music teaching behavior, increasing the music teaching input, improve music teaching facilities and developing and utilizing of school-based curriculum resources.
