In recent years, English comprehension has become increasingly important inEnglish learning. Although teachers and students devote themselves to improvingreading ability, what they achieve is not what they expected. One of the reasons is thata number of teachers still adopt the traditional teaching method referred to as“Duck-stuffing”, ignoring other applications of reading strategies. Considering thepresent English teaching situation, it is extremely important for the teachers to adoptthe effective interactive reading model in teaching reading. Therefore, this paperapplies the interactive reading model into English reading. The purpose is to explorethe new method which can be used in senior high school. In order to test the effectiveness of the interactive reading model of Englishreading in senior high school, the author implements an experiment based on theapplication of interactive reading model in teaching reading. The author chooses twoclasses from the same senior high school grade level; one as the experimental classtaught by interactive reading model, and the other as the control class taught bytraditional reading model. In the beginning the author evaluates the reading ability ofthe two classes through a comprehension test and draws a conclusion of the Englishlevel of the two classes is equivalent, by using the identical testing materials. Then, through a term’s cultivation, the author compares their reading ability by anothercomprehension test. The two classes’ pre and post test results revealed that interactivereading improved students’ reading level. In addition, the author interviewed somestudents from the experimental class to investigate their reaction to the interactivereading model. At the same time, the author recorded the participation rate of thestudents in the class. A comparison was made between interactive reading andtraditional reading activates for a term which gives rise to a conclusion that the formeris in a better position to enhance learners’ reading ability. In summation, the author concludes that the interactive reading model is effectivefor teaching English reading in senior high school, and how it can improve students’reading ability.
