Reading is important among the four basic skills, which can help learners get the information and master language knowledge, and it's crucial to cultivate a good habit of reading and know how to read effectively for students entering the senior middle school.Thus English teachers should pay more attention to the English reading teaching.However, because of the time limitation and the pressure of the exam-oriented education, English teachers in many senior middle school still adopt the traditional teaching method, in which teachers are the center of class and students are passive receivers. This traditional teaching method focus on the vocabulary,grammar and translation, ignoring the teaching of reading skills, the background information and students' participation in activities, which is not suitable to improve students' reading achievement. Therefore the author applies the interactive reading model, expecting to improve students' reading ability and learning strategy in reading. The author conducts the experiment in the two parallel classes in Yongshou senior middle school for one semester. One class is the controlled class adopted the traditional teaching and the other is the experimental class adopted the interactive reading model. The instruments applied to the experiment are two questionnaire, one is conducted before the experiment, and the other is after the experiment, and an interview. The first-questionnaire is aimed to know the situation in controlled class and experimental class about the learning strategy in reading,and the second-questionnaire is used to testify whether the students' learning strategy has improved after using the interactive teaching model. Meanwhile,two tests are used to test students' reading achievement before and after the experiment, the pre-test is used to know whether the reading achievement of these two classes is at the same level, and the post-test is aimed to testify whether students' reading achievement has improved after the application of the interactive reading model.The interview is aimed to know students' attitude and opinion toward interactive reading model. Statistics Package for Social Science(SPSS 17.0) is used to analyze the data between the first-questionnaire and the second-questionnaire, pre-test and the post-test and test whether the reading scores have been changed significantly. Besides, the interview is also analyzed. According to the analysis and discussion of the data collected from the study, students' reading achievement and learning strategy has improved under the application of the interactive reading model. During the process of English reading teaching, teachers should pay attention to their position and role, and know how to make interactive reading model effectively.To the future research, the number of subject should be enough and the experiment time should be longer, which can make more persuasive result.The thesis is made of six chapters. Chapter One is the introduction, which includes the background,purpose, significance of the study. Chapter Two is the literature review, which introduces the definition of reading, and studies at home and abroad. Chapter Three is the theoretical basis, which includes the constructivism, the schema theory and three reading models. Chapter Four is the research methodology, it introduces the research subjects, instruments and process. Chapter Five is the data analysis and discussion.Chapter Six is the conclusion, which introduces the major findings, implication of the study, some limitations of the study and suggestions for the future research.
