English has become essential for the international communication in the modern society.So the students' English competence including reading ability is highlighted.But the students in the traditional reading classes are still weak in reading though they have had reading classes for years.That is because in traditional ways teachers mainly teach vocabulary,structures and grammars which exist in the reading texts but hardly teach students how to read in a right reading teaching approach.So we need to change such a situation and adopt an effective reading teaching approach to improve students' reading competence.The researches on reading show that the reading process goes on in an interactive way.An efficient reader reads both with the top down techniques and withthe bottom up techniques.So the researcher launches this study to apply the interactive reading model to the reading teaching in the junior middle school.In this thesis,the researcher intensively discusses the factors affecting the reading process and the interaction between them which reflects the mechanism of the interactive reading model.Then the researcher discusses the reading teaching practice based on the interactive reading model including reading teaching procedures and methods.To examine if the reading teaching based on the interactive model can promote students to improve their reading competence,the researcher carried out an experiment in the junior middle school and applied the interactive model to the reading teaching practice in the experimental class.The results of the experiment show that teaching reading based on the interactive model pays more attention to the reading process of the students in class and their reading comprehension on the text.And it guides and trains students to use proper reading strategies more efficiently.So teaching reading based on the interactive model is much more effective for the development of the students' reading competence than teaching in the traditional ways.
