In the modern information environment, multimedia has become a symbol of the new media of the people for information exchange, multimedia expression has become a new type of expression. On the one hand,the primary and secondary students grown in this age are feeling the charm of multimedia information in their daily learning and living days. On the other hand, with the spread of information technology in basic education, they can create their own multimedia works by using a variety of information technology, so multimedia expression has slowly come into students’lives. Professor Hu Zhuanglin said "the traditional reading and writing literacy ability can not meet the needs in the multimedia era, students not only need to be cultivated language and writing skills, but also need to strengthened the multi-expression ability training.This paper tries to recognize the positioning of the form and value of expression from the concept of expression in theory. It Proposes the concept of multimedia expression from the relationship between the development of the media and the changes of human expression, and discusses the content and features of multimedia expression on the theory of communication and semiotics, then proposes multimedia expression ability is the comprehensive reflection of image thinking ability, emotional expression ability, logical thinking ability, technology using ability, artistic expression ability, creative thinking ability and many other abilities. This research takes the upper primary students as the the survey object, analyzes the six areas of image, emotional, structural, artistic, technical and artistic of the multimedia works created by upper primary students in“save water resources, protect water environment”activity held in Changsha Tianxin District, and probes the present states of pupils’ multimedia expression ability, and puts forward a series of strategies to improve pupils’multimedia expression skills.
