As a structured method of combining classroom-based education with practical workexperience, cooperative education has already developed many years outside our countryChina, there should be a need for us to research and take it as a reference. Based on thetheories related to higher education, applying the methodologies of statistics analysis,literature research and comparative study, this dissertation is trying to analyze the cooperativeeducation in University of Waterloo in Canada.The thesis is mainly divided into three sections: it will answer the question of "What"first by reviewing its develop history; and then through the study of its whole process ofeducation, it will tell us "Why" it could make such an achievement; finally by means ofsummarizing its experience and combining with the actual situation of our country nowadays,it will make it clear that "How" should we develop our own cooperative education.As Part I, Chapter Two studies the cooperative education in University of Waterloomainly from three aspects: historical origin, present situation and future trend. Aspect ofhistorical origin researches on its background and process, the conclusions show that internaland external factors work together to its start and it experience founded, shock and maturationstages. Aspect of present situation compares it with normal education, taking salary,Employment rate, student financial assistance, teacher resources and s tudent quality as theindexes. Aspect of future trend indicates that the University of Waterloo will expand its scalesteadily, improve quality hard and propel its international process constantly.Chapter Three and Chapter Four constitute Part II, which research on the practicaloperation model from the macroscopic and microcosmic angles respectively. The resultsuggests that from the macroscopic angle, its operation model integrates study with work in"Thin Sandwich" model, which based on "Three Terms per Year", and different educationprojects have different sequences; its management model belongs to mixed managementmodel; its organization model is optional, except all the projects in Faculty of Engineering.From the microcosmic angle, its education process includes four steps: post training, postmatching, process control and work summary, after finishing the feasibility research; thesupporting measures involve quality assurance, policy assurance and financial assurance.The main problems and reasons in our present cooperative education have been analyzedin Chapter Five, which is the Part III. At the same time, it also puts forward somecorresponding countermeasures.
