" National medium and long-term educational reform anddevelopment program (2010-2020)" says," With the implement ofstrategies which focus on science and technology as well as personalcultivating, the government should give priority to the development ofeducation."Teachers are the key factors for the success of theimplementation of quality education, especially the reform of basiceducational curriculum, which requires the primary and middle schoolteachers to actively adapt to the development requirements of thetimes, efforts to renew the education idea, in a timely manner for thechange of the roles. Therefore, under the new curriculum standards,English teacher should have diverse roles: the promoter of the overalldevelopment of students, learning activity organizer, the guider,participants, curriculum developers, the master of the moderneducation technology and teaching researcher.This thesis is mainly divided into five parts:The first part puts forward the research purposes and significancefrom the background of the new curriculum reform, the background ofEnglish curriculum reform and the relationship between textbooks andcurriculum implementation. It also introduces the research methodsemployed, and the related definitions.The second part is the literature review. In literature search process,it summarizes the domestic and foreign research on teachers roles. Andthrough examples of classes in junior middle school, it discusses thechange of teacher’s roles in class under new curriculum background.The third part of the thesis, which involves the theory ofconstructivism, humanism, pragmatism and the critique of Marxism,describes the change of teachers roles theory.The fourth part of the thesis provides two classes’ observation in junior middle school. It investigates and analyzes the change of theEnglish teachers class roles of the present situation. In this part, theauthor studies the sample school teachers roles and contrasts thereferenced samples of school teachers’ roles change. Besides, it studiesthe sample school class observation and analyzes the present situationof the change of English teachers’ roles of classes.The fifth part is about the change of teachers role in the researchconclusion and suggestion, and puts forward the research needs forimprovement and future research direction.
