Geography textbooks, which incarnate the ideology of New Standard and the idea of New Curriculum Reform, are not only the medium between the teachers and students, but also the important materials for students’ study. The column “Activity” in geography textbook inject vitality into students’ study and class. Based on the predecessors’ research, this article has concluded the current situation of the column “Activity” in PEP geography textbooks for junior high school students. “Activity” has also been defined and classified under the guidance of Geographical Discipline Thinking, Course Theory, Pedagogy, Theory of Psychology and Geography Textbook Theory etc. It also discusses some questions which are found during the research of the teaching practice of this column. Based on the discussion, this article proposes the possible strategies for implementation. The following parts are included in the article.Part 1 IntroductionThis part is the overall construction of the whole article, mainly stating the background and significance of this research, the review of research status, the research contents and methods as well as the innovations of this research.Part 2 the Analysis of “Activity” Column in PEP Geography Textbook for Junior High School StudentsThis part first states the theoretical basis from the perspectives of Geography Discipline, Course Theory, Geography Teaching Theory, Pedagogy and Psychology Theory. Based on the studies above, this part clarifies the definition of the column “Activity” and divides it into three main types, namely knowledge research, practical research and the investigation research.Part 3 the Teaching Practice Situation Analysis of the “Activity” Column in the PEP Geography for Junior High School StudentsThis part is key to the entire article and also lays the foundation for the following research. The columns in four PEP textbooks are taken as the research objects and are compared with the analysis of the collected teaching design cases. Although it has raised the attention of teachers and students, the “Activity” column still has a number of questions to be discussed and solved, such as nonperformance, short-period implementation, inconformity, etc. As to those existing problems in teaching, there is a need in the deep study on the column teaching practice.Part 4 the “Activity” Column’s Practice StrategyBased on the current research situation, this part attempts to put forward the optimizing strategies or the practical strategies for the column “Activity” in PEP geography textbooks for junior high school students from the aspects of textbook design, teaching design, teachers guidance and the evaluation of the activity implementation.Part 5 Conclusion and ExpectationThis article is in an attempt to provide reference for both the “Activity” column design and the implementation of course activities by front-line teachers.
