Objectives1. To investigate the status of the meaning of life for students.2. To discuss the effects of death education for medical students.3. To research the impact factors for meaning of life in students.MethodsThis study was a Quasi experimental study.122students in grade2of Changsha medical college were divided into two groups, the trial group and the control group randomly. Subjects in the trial group were given12weeks Death Education course which is about24class hours. While those in the control group were given no intervention. All subjects in both experimental and control group were tested by the Purpose in Life Test before intervention and one week after intervention. The subjects in trial group will be tested in two months after the end of the death education course.Results1.The Multiple linear regression analysis for the scores of122students meaning of life shows that the "major","conscious physical condition","conscious mental state" of subjects are influence factors for the meaning of life. 2. After intervention, the scores of subjects in the trial group increase for the meaning of life on overall level, the value of life, the quality of life, the life goals, and the freedom of life(P<0.05).It means the meaning of life for the students was enhanced. The scores of meaning of life is evident difference between the before and after intervention in the two groups. The meaning of life for students is obvious enhanced in the trial group, compared with the control group(P<0.05). However, the meaning of life for control group is no distinct difference during the research.3. For the trial group, the scores of the meaning of life on overall levels and other dimensions increase significantly between before and two months after the intervention(P<0.05). However, the scores for control group are no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).4. The variance analysis results indicate that effects on scores increasing in the quality of life, the life goals, and the freedom of life play a key role in the cause of above difference between the two groups.Conclusion1. The meaning of life for the students is general level.2. The death education can enhance the meaning of life for the students obviously, and this role may keep for long time.3.80%of subjects in the trial group are satisfied with this course. More than90%of subjects in the trial group would like study this kind of course again. This proves the preparation of death education courses is more successful and it could be applied widely.
