In2000, MIT jointed with four universities to study the CDIO approach for educating the engineers needed by modern society. The approach emphasize product and system lifecycle—Conceiving, Designing, Implementing, and Operating as engineering education context to training the basic ability of engineers with wide knowledge, multidisciplinary background, comprehend quality abilities and social cousciousness. CDIO approach is different with the other engineering education reform because of its objective syllabus and system standard. CDIO approach has been made great progress since implement.In2010, China’s Minstry of Education put up with "Outstanding Engineer Education Training Plan" which194universities have attended. The plan aims to educate a large number of demaned creativily outstanding engineers towards industry, world and future. Now the outstanding engineer is still a kind of ideal. Its education objective is not framed yet that each university need explore by self. The education about it is still at the stage of exploring. During this period, the education quality of outstanding engineers can not be guaranteed. The CDIO syllabus meet the demand of industry, is international, authoritative and comprehensive. By using CDIO syllabus to frame the education objectives of outstanding engineers are broadly and solid knowledge foundation, creativily ability, engineering ability, international communication and teamwork, actively study and life-time study, humanistic quality, engineering consciousness and vocational moral. There are some problems which exist in China’s colleges and universities to attain the objectives that analyze by CDIO standard, including the weakening of whole engineering education practice environment, the lack of flexibility of whole course structure, the old method of teaching content and teaching method, the deficiency of teachers practice and teaching ability, and lack of open toward world. Through CDIO approach, put up some suggestions, such as establish idea of large scale engineering, set up the life cycle engineering education practice environment, built characteristic "design—achieve" integrated curriculum, claim active learning and comprehensive study, improve the teacher’s comprehensive ability of teaching and expand the engineering education toward world, to solve the problems, to educate outstanding engineers, to enhance the quality of engineering education, and to meet the demand of new path of industrialization and building innovation and strength talents country.
