Since the reform and opening up, China has made considerable economicdevelopment and comprehensive national strength, the people’s living standard hasalso been greatly improved. In addition, we should also notice that with increasingincomes, growing income gap, wealth gap began to emergence, which has causedwidespread concern in society. Gap in income distribution caused by many reasons, education is an important factor. This paper analyzes the impact of educationalinequality on income gap in the theoretical and empirical aspects.Based on the research of Chinese and foreign scholars on education and incomegap, this article analyzes the current situation of China’s education and income gapand finds that educational inequality in China there is a clear gap in the urban andrural areas and between regions, this gap is mainly manifested in unequal educationopportunities, inequality in the educational process and educational outcomesinequality. The income distribution also exist a significant gap in the urban and ruralareas and between regions. We use panel data cointegration and error correctionmethod of quantitative analysis to empirically analyze the impact of educationalinequality on income gap and it turns out that, overall, our educational inequality onincome distribution gap produces a positive impact, that the greater the degree ofinequality of education, the greater the level of income distribution gap, especiallybetween urban and rural areas and between the performance significantly. From theoverall national level, urban level, the rural level, due to the income structural, labormarket structure, market structure and other factors, the impact of education onincome distribution has been greatly weakened. Whether it is the overall level of thecountry, urban, rural, urban or regional level, the empirical analysis have confirmedthe existence of inverted U-shaped relationship between the educational expansionand income distribution, but because of China’s educational development is relativelybackward, and not crossed the inflection point to the right of the curve, in generalwith the constant development of China’s education, will lead to widening incomegap.China’s income gap is also affected by the level of urbanization, industrialstructure and government investment in education and other factors, increasedurbanization exacerbated the China’s income gap, the irrational structure ofgovernment investment in education is not conducive to narrowing the income gap in China.Based on these studies, this paper proposes the corresponding policyrecommendations on how to improve educational inequality in China to narrow theincome distribution gap through the development of education.
