Curriculum reform requires teachers to change the way of teaching textbooks into that ofteaching with textbooks, and empower teachers the right to redevelop textbooks and requiresthem to teach with textbooks creatively. This study is designed to research textbookredevelopment, aiming at give practical guidelines for English teachers in elementary andsecondary schools.This study investigates the situations of textbook redevelopment among English teachersin Senior One in Lushan Campus of Chang Jun High School, and takes notes of the secondunit of Module Two with an attempt to know of and analyze teachers’ attitudes towardstextbook redevelopment and what problems they have met in the use of textbooks. At thesame time it analyzes the dimensions and ways that teachers redevelop textbooks through theanalysis of the English textbook and observations。This study does a qualitative analysis on the data of classroom observations andinterviews, combines the specific teaching situations. It compares the theoretical dimensionsto the practical one, and summaries the skills of textbook redevelopment. Textbookredevelopment could be done from language including language contents and language skills,content including themes, social and cultural values, ways including theoretical principles,teaching methods, roles of learners, learning skills and strategies and classroom managementand structures including restructures and teaching schedules and speed and also could becarried through adding, deleting, modifying, simplifying and reordering. Through classroomobservation and interviews, the practical dimensions and used skills of redevelopment ofEnglish textbook are analyzed and summarized.Finally, this thesis gives us some suggestions on measures of promoting textbookredevelopment form the views of the educational department, the school administrators, thetextbook composers and the teachers.
