Textbooks are the carrier of knowledge, and the teaching activities are heavily based on them. In every curriculum reform, textbooks have been playing an important role. With the full implementation of the Basic Education Curriculum Reform Outline, the leading position of "One Standard, one Textbooks" policy has been replaced by "One Standard, Multiple Textbooks" policy. Contemporaneously, the curriculum reform infuses new ideas into the curriculum and teaching, and the textbooks are not the only curriculum resources any more. And with the issue of the National Curriculum Standards, the status and function of textbooks are changed, and the requirement and suggestion of using textbooks flexibly and creatively are accepted by teachers gradually. Moreover, textbooks have unique characteristic which is universality, but the users of the textbooks are not the same, so the effect of using these textbooks are also different. And it is thought that the textbooks' effective using is determined by teachers'acceptance, comprehension and implementation of new curriculum concept.Based on my experience of being an English teacher in a primary school, this dissertation is mainly concentrated on how to redevelop primary school English textbooks. During the course of the research, a large number of pertinent literatures were consulted, heavy on-the-spot investigations were conducted, detailed classroom observations in primary schools were carried out, and some in-depth interviews with primary school English teachers were also had. And through studying the relative literature and carrying out fieldwork, plenty of useful information about practical teachers'experience and perplexities of using textbooks were collected. Then the dissertation was written on the basis of comparing and combining theories with practice. At the beginning of the dissertation, a deep analysis of the essence of textbooks redevelopment are made on the basis of defining the textbooks redevelopment, after that, the basic principles of redevelopment for primary school English textbooks and redevelopment methods are put forward. Then the main procedures of textbooks redevelopment for primary school English textbooks are elaborated in detail. At last, some problems about textbooks redevelopment are put forward, which should be paid more attention, and some conditions of complimenting textbook redevelopment are also given.The aim of the research is to supposed to put forward some basic problems about the redevelopment of primary school English textbooks, to supply some practical suggestion for teachers, to arouse all teachers'curriculum consciousness, and then to promote English teaching effectiveness in primary schools. This dissertation includes five parts in all.Part 1:Introduction In this part, the research orientation, the purpose and significance of the research are included, then the domestic and foreign research status are reviewed, the ideas and methods of the research are expounded, and also the key point and difficult point of the research are given.Part 2:The Meaning and Essence of Textbooks Redevelopment The essence of textbooks redevelopment is analyzed on the basis of defining the meaning of textbooks and textbooks redevelopment, which laid the solid foundation for the research.Part 3:The Principles of Redevelopment for Primary School English Textbooks The basic principles and some useful methods of redevelopment for primary school English textbooks are comprised.Part 4:The Procedures and Methods of Redevelopment for Primary School English Textbooks This part is the core of the research. The main procedures of textbooks redevelopment are brought forward based on analyzing teaching characteristics of primary school English and the physical and mental characteristics of primary school students. Then some useful methods are given.Part 5:The Conditions of Implementing Textbooks Redevelopment The problems should be paid more attention in the process of textbooks redevelopment are put forward. And the conditions of complimenting textbooks redevelopment are also given at the end.
