Nowadays the world pay more attention to extraordinary talents because of fierce international competition. Gifted education, as a targeted way to cultivate extraordinary talents, has been increasingly concerned. But now there are many problems in gifted education in our country. How to develop the gifted education is a real issue to be solved urgently in front of us.Gifted education policies, as a bridge between educational theories and practice, play the core role in the zigzag and ascending development of gifted education. It is possible and necessary to pay attention to adjust gifted education policies in order to develop gifted education. Stones from other hills may serve to polish jade. To study the more mature gifted education policies in Australia is very valuable for the development of our gifted education.The history of gifted education policies in Australia can be divided into three stages: beginning, development and reform. These policies have become more and more mature in several decades. The gifted education policies in Australia contain identification, selection and cultivation of gifted students and supporting initiatives and so on. The improvement of these policies ensures benign development of gifted education and the effects of theses policies have been widely recognized by the society. To develop our gifted education, we should learn from the initiatives of gifted education in Australia, analyze the contents and purposes of its policies, pay attention to the legislation, focus on professional teacher training, and increase the input.To study gifted education policies in Australia brings us a lot of revelations, and there are two most important things. Firstly, on the macroscopic level, we should recognize the importance of gifted education policies, and regard the policies as the core factor in the process of developing gifted education. Secondly, on the microscopic level, we should pay attention to the detailed setting and implementation of policies to steadily promote gifted education reform in our country.
