During the new century, China’s higher education has undergone a transformation,from public education to elite education; moreover, the reform of the society has madethe relationship between the institutions of higher learning and society become closer.As the university under the lead of socialism, its main aim is to bring up builders of andsuccessor to the socialist cause. This requires us to cultivate college students to haveexcellent academic performance and good health condition; what’s more we shouldemphasis their ideological and ethical education. Thus, to upgrade of college students’ideological and ethical standards is the priority of institutions of higher learning. As thetime and situation change, there is a new requirement for the ideological and politicaleducation. Thus, we must reform its contents, forms, carriers, methods to keep pacewith the times, which is to strengthen the effectiveness of ideological and politicaleducation.Recently, the campus culture has been the focus of the scholars gradually, asit is the main approach to realize ideological and political education.The campus culture is the main component of advanced socialist culture. It growsand develops in the environment of school education. The campus culture is composedof mental culture, institutional culture, material culture and behavior culture. As ahidden curriculum, it has a subtle influence and guiding effect on the form of students’world view, ideal, faith, temperament, character and the changing of behavior. Thus, theconstruction of campus culture and its influence are not only the necessity of rapid,sound and sustainable development of higher school, but also the necessity ofcultivating all-round innovative talents and promoting the national culture.By using questionnaires, the author of this paper do a survey on the500studentsfrom Chongqing normal university, Chongqing university, Chongqing University ofScience and Technology, Chongqing institute of pharmaceutical college, Sichuan FineArts Institute in Chongqing, which aims to analyze the effect of ideological and politicaleducation. By analyzing the strengthening of construction of campus culture as a starting point, this paper systematically probe into the function of campus culture onideological and political education and how to effectively exert this function.The first part of this paper is mainly to give a general summary on campus culture. Itincludes the concept of campus culture, the basic components of campus culture, andthe straits of campus culture. The second part is to state the function of campus cultureon ideological and political education from the following five aspects: guiding function,constrained function, arted function, innovative function, inspired function. The thirdpart is to analyze the current situation of the function o campus culture on ideologicaland political education; moreover this part has analyzed the causes of the currentsituation, which aims to enhance its pertinence and effectiveness. The last part of thispaper mainly discusses the approaches of the functions of campus culture on ideologicaland political education.
